Online resources for History teaching and study
The resources in this section of the Teaching Portal include:
- Online Databases (currently listing over 400 resources, primarily for English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish history) and related disciplines, as well as European and global history resources. These are intended to demonstrate the extraordinary range of online databases with supporting commentary and links and brief guides to the content of each, including school teaching resources, where applicable.
- Listings of Archives, Libraries and Subject Associations for the UK and the Republic of Ireland, including national repositories, and Anglican and Catholic cathedral archives which are accessible to experienced researchers, as well as to historians starting research projects, and to family historians.
- Listings of Higher Education units where History may be currently studied in the UK including departments, and groups within schools of humanities, theology and social sciences, which reflect the interdisciplinary nature of History as a degree. The list also includes Sixth Form Colleges which – in conjunction with nearby local universities – provide a base for students wishing to study a university-accredited History degree. More information is available in online subject guides to degree courses such as those provided by UCAS.
We welcome additions to these lists, and we encourage visitors to the portal to report any problems such as broken website links using the contact form.
