Race Update 2 – Higher Education Race Action Group

by | Feb 5, 2020 | Race Update | 0 comments

This ‘Race Update’ introduces resources that have been circulated by the Higher Education Race Action Group (HERAG) and other bodies that could be used in a range of settings such as staff and student induction, training sessions delivered in schools or teaching.

HERAG is made up of equality and diversity professionals, academics, students and other individuals interested in advancing race equality in higher education.

Past action plans have been to:

  • Improve the progression and attainment of BME students
  • Create a clear career progression route for all BME staff

By:

  • Raising the profile of race equality, and HERAG, across higher education
  • Enabling governors and leaders to deliver race equality for students and staff
  • Creating a bank of race equality resources and good practice case studies about students and staff to share across the sector

Their resources can be found here: https://www.ecu.ac.uk/higher-education-race-action-group-herag/ and anyone can sign up to the HERAG jiscmail list, which is an opportunity to keep in touch with events, news and research on race equality in the sector, and to post anything which might be of interest to other members.

Below are some video resources that have been shared by HERAG members and might be of use to you in the classroom, meetings or conferences.

An extensive list of resources ranging from audio-visual recordings, books, and articles on subjects related to decolonising from different perspectives, the attainment gap, and intersectionality has been produced by the group (regularly updated):
