12. Marketing communications
- Automatic Communications
All members automatically receive the weekly e-newsletter as part of their membership benefits. If they are elected to the Society, they will begin to receive this. If they don’t pay their membership fees, they will be taken off the mailing list. Upon receiving the newsletter, members have the option to unsubscribe. Members may also receive separate emails about upcoming events. - Marketing to Non-members
Non–members are contacted with an invitation to apply for membership. These individuals are profiled using publicly available information and only contacted once. - Withdrawing Consent
If members wish to stop receiving the newsletter, they can unsubscribe at any time or they can email us and we will do this for them. If they do not wish to be contacted in relation to marketing and communications, they can also contact the Society, and we will remove them from our mailing lists. If they wish to cancel their membership subscription, they need to email us, and we will do this on their behalf.
13. Publishing data
- All members who have paid their fees will be included on the website lists. The listing includes the members’ names and professional affiliations (if applicable).
- The names of newly elected members are listed in a special news item on the RHS website.
- Members’ names, email addresses, country of residence, affiliations, and research interests are published in the Members’ Directory based on the provision of consent. This Directory is only accessible to other RHS members and staff.
- Names will be taken off all lists and the Directory at the termination of membership.
- If they don’t want their names on the lists or Directory, they can opt out by contacting membership@royalhistsoc.org.

We retain a permanent record of individuals elected to Fellowship as part of our historical and constitutional archive.
